A Democrat Socialist Candidate’s Racist Pledge Rocked America Like Gut Punch

Asocialist congressional candidate said out loud what most Democrat politicians only say behind closed doors.

She wasn’t shy about it, either.

And what she told an interviewer about her plans for the Democratic Socialists of America is going to leave a lot of Americans red with rage.

She Said the Quiet Part Loud

Avila Chevalier, the Democrat nominee for New York’s 13th Congressional District, sat down recently for an interview on ELR News with Kevin Ortega-Rojas and made clear exactly what she intends to do once she gets to Washington, DC.

“I think with DSA specifically, something that I’m very excited to do is to build black socialism within the caucuses of DSA,” she said.

She kept going.

“And something that my team and I were very intentional about we’re making sure that we weren’t just talking about socialism broadly, that we were talking about the legacy of socialism in our district, right? A legacy of black socialism, Latino socialism, that focused on racial justice as economic justice,” Avila Chevalier said.

That’s not a slip. That’s a platform. She ran on this, won on it, and is now broadcasting it ahead of the November general election.

Avila Chevalier defeated incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat in the Democrat primary earlier this year, backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America. The DSA’s own platform calls for government seizure of major corporations, abolition of the Senate, and the replacement of the Presidency and Supreme Court with bodies subordinate to Congress. These aren’t fringe internal debates — they’re written down and published. Avila Chevalier is a card-carrying member of that organization and is now one election away from a seat in the US House of Representatives.

This Isn’t New — She’s Been Saying It for Years

The ELR News interview didn’t come out of nowhere. Avila Chevalier has a documented history of socialist and Marxist advocacy that she spent some time trying to scrub from public view.

A since-deleted Twitter account, reported by CNN, included phrases such as “seize the means of production,” along with calls to abolish police, prisons, and borders. The account also featured sympathetic references to communism, Marxist ideology, and Soviet figures including Vladimir Lenin, according to CNN’s reporting. The account appears to have been deleted in June 2022.

She has also been identified as the co-founder of an organization that claims to fight for the “total eradication of Western civilization,” as Breitbart News reported.

When the deleted posts surfaced, House Democrat leaders tried to wave it all away by suggesting she had changed. But the ELR News interview — recorded recently, not years ago — shows she hasn’t changed at all. She’s just gotten a bigger platform.

And here’s the thing about socialism that its American advocates never want to answer directly: it has a historical record. Every country that has tried to build the kind of centralized, government-controlled economic system Avila Chevalier is describing has produced the same results — shortages, authoritarian drift, the destruction of the middle class, and the concentration of power in the hands of a small political elite. Venezuela. Cuba. The Soviet Union she apparently admired on social media. The pattern doesn’t change because the branding gets updated.

Johnson Saw This Coming

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has been sounding the alarm about exactly this kind of candidate for months, and the Avila Chevalier interview is the clearest possible confirmation that his warnings were warranted.

“Marxists, socialists, and the insurgent far-left have taken over the Democrat Party,” Johnson said. “Now Mini-Mamdani candidates won’t say the Pledge of Allegiance, want to abolish borders and police, and much more. In 2026, the contrast for America is on display between common sense and CRAZY.”

Johnson also highlighted what Karl Marx himself believed: “So Karl Marx believed and he taught and said, socialism is a step toward communism.”

He added, “These insurgent left candidates are winning the Democrat primaries all across the country. The barbarians are inside the gate. It’s very, very serious stuff.”

That’s not hyperbole. Avila Chevalier didn’t just win a primary — she knocked off a five-term incumbent who chaired the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. She did it with DSA backing, with Mayor Mamdani’s endorsement, and with a platform that includes implementing the Green New Deal, universal child care, the “Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act and Equal Tax Act,” and universal health care. Every one of those proposals means more government, more spending, more control, and higher costs for ordinary working Americans who never asked for any of it.

But she’s not stopping there. She wants to build a socialist caucus structure inside the DSA itself, explicitly organized around racial identity and framed as a continuation of a historical tradition. That’s not a policy proposal. That’s a movement-building strategy designed to entrench Marxist ideology inside one of the two major political parties in the United States.

The voters who sent Trump back to Washington in 2024 did so because they rejected exactly this kind of agenda. They rejected government-run healthcare. They rejected open borders. They rejected the idea that Washington, DC bureaucrats and ideological activists should have more control over their lives, their wages, and their communities. Avila Chevalier’s platform is a direct repudiation of every one of those voter preferences.

And the Democrat Party’s leadership, rather than pushing back, has largely accommodated the socialist surge. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told reporters after the deleted posts surfaced that Avila Chevalier had been “pretty clear that she’s walked away from many of the things” she said in the past. But she sat down for an interview recently and told the world she is “very excited” to build black socialism within DSA caucuses. That’s not walking away from anything.

What’s happening inside the Democrat Party right now is not a debate between moderates and progressives. It’s a takeover. The DSA’s candidates are winning primaries in deep-blue districts, they’re getting endorsed by a sitting big-city mayor, and they’re walking into general elections with overwhelming structural advantages in places like New York’s 13th.

Avila Chevalier isn’t hiding what she believes. She’s proud of it. And the Democrat Party’s leadership has decided that’s something it can live with.

Americans watching this unfold from outside New York City should understand that the DSA platform she’s advancing — government seizure of corporations, abolition of the Senate, open borders, defunding the police — isn’t a local New York story. It’s a preview of what the radical left intends to push nationally if it consolidates enough power inside Congress to do it.

Johnson put it plainly: the barbarians are inside the gate. Avila Chevalier just gave everyone a detailed tour of what they plan to build once they get settled in.
