Tucker Carlson’s career was at a low point.

It didn’t look like there was any comeback in store.

But Tucker Carlson revealed the secret identity of the person who saved his life.

Fox News yanked Tucker Carlson off the air in April.

Carlson’s cancellation came out of nowhere and at a time when Carlson was the highest-rated talk-show host in cable news.

But Fox News didn’t just simply fire Carlson.

Carlson still had approximately 18 months left on his contract and Fox planned to pay him the money it owed him so the network could force a non-compete clause and keep Carlson off the air until 2025.

However, Carlson found a workaround.

In a Twitter Spaces event where Carlson promoted his new subscriber-driven streaming service, Carlson described how Elon Musk threw him a career lifeline by offering Carlson a chance to livestream a new show on Twitter.

“Elon called me and said, ‘you should just bring the whole operation to X. Not for pay, but just use it like anyone else would, with the guarantee that he’s made to everyone that this is not gonna be governed by censorship and you can say what you think, as long as you’re not committing a crime,’” Carlson began.

Carlson explained that in the media world exposure is everything.

Once you fade out of the audience’s consciousness by going off the air, the public forgets about you and it’s impossible to recover that momentum.

“I don’t know if you’ve been fired before, but this happened to me a couple firings ago where there’s this moment where you’re like, well, I guess I’ll just go fishing, you know what I mean? Or something else that’s not healthy and you lose your momentum and then you’re like, what am I doing with my life?” Carlson continued.

Musk proposing the livestream show on Twitter kept Carlson in the middle of the debate as his interviews with Donald Trump and Dave Portnoy as well as investigative reporting about the truth on the war in Ukraine and the death of George Floyd racked up hundreds of millions of views.

Since Twitter wasn’t paying Carlson for the show it didn’t violate his non-compete agreement and provided Carlson with leverage to free himself from his Fox News deal and start up his own personal media venture.

Carlson will now play a pivotal role in the 2024 election and his ability to interview newsmakers and break down what’s really going on in the world will provide a source of information conservatives can count on as the media prepares an unprecedented campaign to try and defeat Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

None of this would be possible without Musk buying Twitter – which he subsequently renamed X – and committing the platform as best he could to defending free speech.
