The far-left fever dream for 2028 just got a loud new voice behind it.
A self-described socialist Twitch streamer with millions of followers just handed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez the most revealing endorsement she’s gotten yet.
And what he said about her chances will tell you everything you need to know about where the radical Left wants to drag this country next.
Piker Picks His Horse and Doesn’t Blink
Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker selected Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) over a slate of prominent Democrats as his preferred 2028 presidential candidate, arguing that AOC could excite the Democrat Party’s base and bring infrequent voters into a winning coalition.
When asked to choose between Ocasio-Cortez and Rep Ro Khanna (D-CA) as his preferred candidate, Piker immediately selected the New York congresswoman. “AOC. It’s not even a question,” Piker said during a Zeteo interview with Mehdi Hasan.
Piker made clear exactly where he stood. “AOC is, out of all of the people that you mentioned,” he said. “AOC is the only one that I would like.”
Piker made the choice at the end of a rapid-fire exercise that began with California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The list later included former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA), among others.
He compared her favorably to the Vermont socialist senator, saying, “It would be a fantastic left candidate, even better than Bernie in many ways.”
That’s a remarkable thing to say out loud. Bernie Sanders ran twice for President on a platform of government-run healthcare, massive tax hikes, and top-down economic control — and lost both times. Piker thinks AOC can go further.
Piker laid out his theory of the race plainly. “As long as you have moral conviction, as long as you can excite the base, as long as you can actually create a unique coalition and activate low-propensity voters,” he said. “Which I think AOC has the capacity to do, it would be a fantastic left candidate.”
But Piker didn’t hand her a completely clean review. He said she had been effective on social media and willing to take progressive positions in Congress but argued she could appear too concerned with optics. “The way she carries herself, I think, is a little bit too, like, optics-driven, too liberal and too optics-driven,” Piker said. “I think she doesn’t harness the populist rage in the way that she communicates.”
Read that again. His criticism of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is that she isn’t radical enough in her delivery. Not that her policies are too far Left. Not that she’s out of step with working Americans. Just that she doesn’t channel enough rage.
Piker is a radical figure who declared America “deserved” the 9/11 terrorist attacks and praised murderous Chinese Communist dictator Mao Zedong as “one of the great leaders” in world history even though Mao slaughtered tens of millions of his own people.
The Piker endorsement, as well as a University of New Hampshire poll showing Ocasio-Cortez racing out to a lead in the 2028 New Hampshire primary, shows the socialist left beginning to consolidate around a potential Ocasio-Cortez Presidential campaign.
The Poll Numbers That Should Worry Every Normal American
Piker’s endorsement didn’t land in a vacuum. Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leads a 2028 Democrat presidential polling field in New Hampshire with 22% support, according to a University of New Hampshire survey. The Granite State Poll took place from July 15 to 20, featuring 648 likely 2028 Democrat presidential primary voters.
In the poll, Ocasio-Cortez garnered 22 percent backing from respondents, with former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg behind her at 21 percent and Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) trailing at 9 percent.
Ocasio-Cortez gained seven points since the February survey, while Harris and California Governor Gavin Newsom lost ground — another sign of the four-term New York lawmaker’s growing strength among Democrat voters in the early presidential battleground.
And AOC herself? When asked if she is interested in a run, she told Fox News Digital, “I have genuinely not really weighed seriously anything past the midterm elections. I think that I’m taking in this information just like anybody else.”
That’s not a denial. Politicians who aren’t running don’t talk like that.
What an AOC Presidency Would Actually Mean
Let’s be honest about what’s really being celebrated here. AOC supports Medicare for All, which would create a single-payer national health insurance program. She also supports abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and ending detention of illegal aliens. Ocasio-Cortez has advocated for reducing carbon emissions through the Green New Deal, which includes investing in renewable energy sources and upgrading infrastructure.
Government-run healthcare has a well-documented record in countries that have tried it: rationing, waiting lists, and bureaucrats making decisions that patients and doctors used to make together. The Green New Deal would hand Washington control over the energy sector while driving up costs for every working family in America. Abolishing ICE would gut interior enforcement and send a clear invitation to anyone considering crossing the border illegally. These aren’t fringe proposals AOC has flirted with. They are the core of her record.
She also supports gun control measures such as universal background checks and an assault weapons ban — a full-spectrum assault on the Second Amendment dressed up in the language of safety.
And on the question of human life, AOC’s position is absolute. She does not accept any federal, state, or local rollbacks, cuts, or restrictions on the ability of individuals to access abortion. Her stated position calls for open access to safe, legal, affordable abortion for all people, regardless of income, location, or education. Planned Parenthood, which receives hundreds of millions in federal taxpayer funding annually while performing hundreds of thousands of abortions each year, counts Ocasio-Cortez as one of its most reliable allies in Congress. She frames the destruction of unborn human life as a policy entitlement, not a moral question.
She has described herself as a democratic socialist and believes in redistributing wealth to address income inequality. Socialism has a historical record, and it isn’t ambiguous. Every serious experiment in government-managed economies has produced the same results: shortages, stagnation, and the slow erosion of the middle class that socialist politicians claim to champion. The people who always suffer most are the ones who can’t afford to leave.
Piker and his audience know all of this. They don’t see it as a liability. They see it as the point.
But here’s what Piker’s math misses. Winning a Democrat primary by exciting the most committed ideological activists is a very different project than winning a general election in a country where the majority of voters just watched what runaway government spending, open borders, and radical social engineering did to their grocery bills, their neighborhoods, and their kids’ schools. Donald Trump carried his 2024 mandate precisely because ordinary Americans had seen enough of the Left’s agenda in action.
The Democrat Party is now engaged in a very public argument over whether to run toward the center or sprint further Left. Piker’s answer is to sprint. A new University of New Hampshire poll suggests a significant chunk of the Democrat base agrees with him. And AOC is keeping the door open wide enough to walk through.
If the party that gave America the COVID lockdowns, the mask mandates, the open southern border, and the inflation crisis wants to put a self-described democratic socialist at the top of the ticket in 2028, that is their prerogative. But voters will have a clear choice — and they’ve already shown once, in convincing fashion, which direction they prefer.
