And Barack Obama took the gloves off with this unthinkable attack on JD Vance’s wife.
Obama Goes After JD Vance’s Marriage
Obama was in the middle of one of his typical rants bemoaning America as a racist country when he told author Malcom Gladwell that the Supreme Court didn’t want black people to vote and the Republican Party believed only white people were real Americans.
“Obviously, more directly, we’re having debates now about voting, voting rights. And you’ve got a Supreme Court that has systematically weakened the possibilities of enforcing voting rights in our democracy. And we have a politics now that—at least one of our major parties has been captured by politics that is not that subtle about suggesting that “we the people” means a certain kind of people,” Obama raged.
Insulting America as a racist and bigoted country was ugly stuff.
But it was Obama’s usual fare.
Obama then found a way to stoop ever lower in the sewer when he attacked Vice President JD Vance’s marriage to Usha, claiming that Vance was a hypocrite for supporting “blood and soil” nationalism while married to the daughter of Indian immigrants.
“When you have the vice president—the current vice president—making a speech that is basically a blood-and-soil version of “we the people,” that it matters who your parents were and how long they’ve been here, despite him being married to a daughter of an immigrant himself, that echoes, then, ideas about who can be a citizen, who belongs, who gets to make decisions,” Obama added.
What JD Vance Supports
JD Vance has never backed the idea that only “heritage Americans” – those who trace their ancestry to the nation’s founding – are “real” Americans.
What Vance has argued is that America isn’t just an idea and an economy, but a physical country with its own borders and distinct culture.
Vance contends that America’s immigration system should work for the benefit of America and that America is more than just a “creedal nation.”
Obama ignored all of that and continued his rant claiming Vance, married to a child of immigrants, was hypocrisy, but that it was also progress towards what Obama hoped was a “multi-racial democracy” that erased the conception of America as a nation with a shared culture.
And , as usual for Obama, he included a scolding about how America’s system of racism always let him down.
“In that same way, I would argue that the progress that we’ve seen over your lifetime and mine in creating a multiracial democracy—that stuff sticks, and that’s progress. And so I don’t get cynical and look back. I don’t subscribe to the idea that, because this has always been a theme in America, because we will often be disappointed by how American society responds to racial discrimination and injustice, because at any moment that kind of caste thinking can flare up and be dangerous and violent and cruel, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have evidence of that better version of America. We have evidence of it. We’ve seen it,” Obama added.
Obama tried to transform America from a country and with a culture by promoting the false notion that America is an “ideal.”
Americans rejected that subversion by electing Donald Trump twice as President after Trump campaigned on themes Vance articulated of America being a country whose culture needed preserving.
