Chuck Schumer thought he hatched the perfect plot to seize the majority in the United States Senate.
But then reality hit,
And Chuck Schumer got slapped with bad news that will knock him off his feet.
Graham Platner’s Implosion Threatens the Democrats’ 2026 Chances
Democrats need to flip four GOP-held seats to win control of the Senate and install Schumer as majority leader.
A Democrat Senate means a blockade of all judicial and cabinet nominations and new rounds of witch hunts, all of which spells the effective end of Trump’s Presidency.
Democrats began 2026 with high hopes of winning the Senate.
But those dreams imploded thanks to poor candidates.
Maine was the Democrats’ number one pickup target.
Susan Collins is the last Republican left representing a state Kamala Harris carried.
And given midterms generally swing against the party in power anyway, Democrats figured it was a layup to win this race.
But Graham Platner ended his campaign amid “Me Too” allegations orchestrated by the Democrat Party establishment enraged over the fact that a socialist backed by Bernie Sanders defeated their hand-picked candidate.
Platner ended his campaign, saying in a video that the establishment left him no choice but to drop out “because of the structures that are being taken away from us by those in power.”
The Democrat Party Fractures
Political observers told media outlets that Platner dropping out wounded Democrats’ chances to win back the Senate for various reasons.
“In general, it’s not good news for the Democrats. Not good news that so many prominent Democrats endorsed the dropout and not such good news — probably — about how they’re going to respond to news in the next few days. It’s just bad news for the party,” Professor of political science at Arizona State University Steven S. Smith told The Hill.
Platner ran an anti-establishment campaign and won the most votes of any Democrat Senate candidate in Maine history.
“He had captured the imagination of Maine voters, some of whom may not vote in November because they’ll take the position of Platner or bust,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center.
“If you’re a progressive activist, in your mind there is very little difference between a Republican and a corporate Democrat,” Paleologos added. “They’re both viewed as entrenched party people.”
Democrats are now also worried about Michigan, where socialist-Islamist Abdul El-Sayed is the favorite to take on Republican Mike Rogers.
El-Sayed’s past support for fringe positions such as defunding the police has Democrats worried he’s unelectable.
“There is real concern that Abdul would not be able to beat Rogers and then potentially lose us a majority possibility in the Senate,” Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lon Johnson told The Washington Post.
Thanks to poor candidate choices and the socialist takeover of the Democrat Party, it looks like Chuck Schumer’s dream could turn into his worst 2026 nightmare.
