Vice President JD Vance is gearing up for an expected 2028 Presidential campaign.
But then an unexpected name emerged who was also considering a White House bid.
And JD Vance was left speechless by this bombshell about who will challenge him in 2028.
NBC Reports Pete Hegseth is Looking at 2028
President Trump is reportedly preparing to endorse Vance if Vance decides to run for President.
The Washington Post reported that “President Donald Trump recently told donors in private that he wants to see his vice president win the 2028 presidential election — a sign that he is open to publicly backing JD Vance, even as some advisers caution that Trump has yet to settle firmly on a successor.”
“At the end of the day, we need to elect JD,” the Post reported Trump telling donors during an Oval Office meeting.
But that doesn’t appear to have settled the 2028 question.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is contemplating a Presidential campaign, believing his tough-guy persona, former stint on Fox News, and position as one of the faces of Trump’s foreign policy agenda would create a lane for him to run in.
“Hegseth has told close friends and associates that he is considering a potential run for president in 2028, according to two people familiar with the conversations, NBC News reports. Hegseth and his wife, Jennifer, have reportedly discussed the possibility for months, believing his toughness, conservative views and appeal among Trump’s MAGA base could translate into a presidential campaign. His recent appearance at the Iowa State Fair, where he campaigned for Republican Representative Zach Nunn, further fueled speculation, given Iowa’s longstanding role as an early presidential battleground,” Newsweek reported.
Hegseth and His Team Deny Interest in Running for President
Department of War spokesman Sean Parnell denied Hegseth was looking at running for President.
“Secretary Hegseth is not running for President, and his main priority is leading the War Department. All other speculation is foolish,” a statement from Parnell read.
Hegseth took to social media to deny the report as well.
“100% false. We told NBC that, but they just lie w/ anonymous “sources.” My only job: Make @DeptofWar Great Again. Carry on, Patriots, and enjoy your Friday night,” Hegseth wrote.
But Hegseth did travel to the Iowa State Fair to campaign for Congressman Zach Nunn.
Political figures only travel to the Iowa State Fair to stoke speculation that they are running for President since the Iowa Caucus is the first nominating event on the GOP primary calendar.
Hegseth can deny interest in running for President all he wants.
But Hegseth ran for office once, a Minnesota Senate bid back in 2012.
Actions always speak louder than words, and as long as Hegseth travels to early primary states like Iowa, Presidential rumors will follow him.
