Chuck Schumer got some bad news.
Schumer’s career is teetering on thin ice.
And AOC is circling Chuck Schumer. A new CNN poll just handed her the opening she needed.
As American Media Watch Dog reports:
Polls show President Trump’s support slipping.
But Democrats can’t take comfort in those numbers because of the brewing civil war on the left.
CNN’s data analyst, Harry Enten, walked through his network’s latest poll and explained that it should be a hair-on-fire moment for Schumer and his fellow Democrats.
Enten told viewers that the poll showed that 74 percent of Americans say Democrats have the wrong priorities, which is a disaster.
The Democratic Party’s main priority is mindless resistance to President Trump.
Americans are rejecting that knee-jerk partisanship.
But what Enten went on to explain was an even bigger disaster: that a majority of Democrat-leaning independents and a near majority of Democrats also agree that the party has the wrong priorities.
“Overall, 74 percent, nearly three and four say no, just 25 percent overall say yes. You might say, OK, well, at least Dems like Democrats. Uh-uh, not the case. Look at this. The majority of Democrats are independents who lean Democratic. Look at this. 55 percent say no. Congressional Democrats do not have the right priorities. And then you see a minority, 45 percent of Democrats, say that congressional Democrats have the right priorities,” Enten stated.
Enten also described the trend in Democratic Party approval of their leaders, from +28 points in 2006 to -4 underwater today.
“I want to know how unusual what we’re seeing right now about how Democrats feel about Democrats in Congress is. Take a look at this. This is a trend line going through the years, midterm elections in which there’s a GOP president. Look at this, in 2006, Democrats’ net approval of congressional Democratic leaders was plus 28,” Enten added.
“You go back to the last midterm, look at that, plus 19, very much on the positive side of it. The bottom has fallen out. The bottom has fallen out by four points. That is Democrats, Democrats’ own net approval of their own congressional leaders. Even Democrats don’t like their own leaders in Congress. And overall, of course, the numbers are just absolutely awful.” Enten added.
Enten went on to say that these numbers scream “primary challenges” to leaders like Chuck Schumer.
And Schumer may very well face the mother of all primary challenges as Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is eying a run against Schumer if she doesn’t seek the White House in 2028.
Ocasio-Cortez is campaigning across New York to build a base of support, and the CNN polls show there would be a receptive audience among Democrats for Ocasio-Cortez to challenge Schumer in a primary.
