Democrats have spent years calling Tom Homan every name in the book.
But Homan just pulled out a receipt they never saw coming.
And it has Barack Obama’s name on it.
The Award Democrats Wish Everyone Would Forget
On *The Katie Miller Podcast*, border czar Tom Homan argued that his past award from former President Barack Obama for deportations proves that modern Democrats are hypocrites on border policy.
Podcaster Katie Miller asked Homan, “Why do you think American society has moved to saying that deportations are a bad thing when, 20 years ago, even Democrats were for them. And you were able to do your job so much more easily, deport tons of people without so much as, you know, anyone caring?”
Homan’s answer cut straight to the bone.
“They didn’t want to see this president succeed. And I truly believe that because I actually got an award from President Obama for removing the record number of illegal aliens. President Obama gave me an award because we removed 409,000 people that year.”
Four hundred and nine thousand. That number deserves to sit there for a second.
During the Obama administration, Homan held senior leadership roles in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, first serving as an assistant director for Enforcement and Removal Operations, then as the deputy executive associate director of ERO, and finally as the executive associate director of ERO.
The Obama administration awarded him the Presidential Rank for Distinguished Service in 2015 for leading Enforcement and Removal Operations and spearheading the management and reform of the largest civil detention system in the nation.
That’s the same Tom Homan Democrats now call a Nazi.
What Changed — and Who Changed It
“I really think it has to do with our president and the hatred for this president,” Homan replied.
Homan said, “I think the media has moved people far to the left because of their false reporting. I think the colleges — I speak from my own experience with one of my sons — that they move people to the far left.”
He added, “Look, I read the press releases every day. Ninety-eight percent of it’s negative, right? They misstate what we’re actually doing.”
And the consequences of that misrepresentation, Homan says, are showing up in the streets.
“But between the media and members of Congress who will spew lies about ICE, if anybody’s terrorizing immigrant communities, it’s representatives of Congress who say that ‘ICE are fascists. They’re the Nazis. They’re the secret police,’ which is why I think some of the recent tragedies have happened,” Homan said.
“People think it’s OK not to comply with ICE now because they’re hearing over and over again they’re not a real law enforcement agency. So, you can impede, you can interfere, you don’t have to comply with them,” Homan warned.
That’s not a fringe concern. Homan has been on a press blitz in recent days, amid protests in multiple states against Immigration and Customs Enforcement after agents carried out two fatal shootings in the span of a week.
Homan said, “I said yesterday — I took a lot of hate from the left — the recent shootings, as tragic as they were, if they simply would have complied with federal law enforcement agencies on the road stops, they probably wouldn’t be dead. I don’t think they deserve to die, but if they would have simply complied with law enforcement, tragedy can be avoided.”
Biden’s Open Border Left a Body Count Democrats Won’t Discuss
Homan didn’t stop at defending his record. He went after the people pointing fingers.
“Let’s talk about Joe Biden for a minute,” Homan began. “When he opened the border up, over 4,000 aliens died making that journey. Historic record. Quarter million Americans died from fentanyl that came across the open border. Historic record. Don’t talk about humanity. He was killing Americans and aliens at record numbers. President Trump has illegal immigration down 96%. Which means 96% less people are coming.”
Those aren’t talking points. Those are numbers attached to real people who are dead.
And the Democrat Party — the same party now screaming about the cruelty of deportations — ran the government when that fentanyl was flooding across an open border. They said nothing. They did nothing. They called it humane.
The shift in tone isn’t about policy. It’s about who’s in the White House. “What’s turned the tide is the false rhetoric, hateful rhetoric by the media, you know, about the inhumane policies of the Trump administration,” Homan continued.
Think about that sequence for a moment. Obama deports 409,000 people in a single year, hands Homan an award for it, and nobody calls it a humanitarian crisis. Trump’s administration gets illegal immigration down 96% — and suddenly the same enforcement work is being compared to the Third Reich.
The difference isn’t the policy. It never was.
Democrats have spent the last several years trying to import a permanent voter base through mass illegal entry, and the one thing standing between that strategy and total success is a border czar who keeps doing his job regardless of who’s watching. That’s why the rhetoric has gotten so vicious. It’s not moral outrage — it’s political desperation dressed up as conscience.
But the award is sitting right there. Barack Obama’s name is on it. And no amount of “Nazi” rhetoric changes what it says.
