And Chuck Schumer ignited a civil war with one surprise announcement.
The Democrat Party is tearing itself apart at the seams and the crack-up is over the response to Israel’s military operations to wipe out Hamas.
Since the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack where jihadists butchered 1,200 innocent Jews, a disturbingly large number of Democrats took the side of the terrorist organization.
“Squad” members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib demanded Joe Biden reward Hamas by forcing Israel into a ceasefire.
Tlaib even defended the “from the river to the sea” chant which is nothing less than a call for the complete genocide of the Jewish people and the elimination of the State of Israel.
But even more shocking than the calls by elected Democrats to adopt pro-Hamas policy positions were the actions of the party’s voters.
Shocking videos emerged of pro-Hamas mobs stalking Jewish students on college campuses.
Pro-Hamas Democrats tore down the posters of Israelis taken hostage by Hamas.
The levels of anti-Semitism displayed on the left are nearing 1930s levels of violence.
It’s creating a political crisis for Joe Biden as young and Muslim Americans increasingly disapprove of Joe Biden and threaten to sit out the 2024 election.
But Democrats know the images of Jewish students hiding from bloodthirsty mobs of Hamas supports won’t play well with swing voters.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer finally spoke out.
In a stunning speech – Democrats never call out their own – Schumer blasted the growing anti-Semitism on the left.
“Antisemites are taking advantage of the pro-Palestinian movement to espouse hatred and bigotry toward Jewish people,” Schumer declared. “But rather than call out this dangerous behavior for what it is, we see so many of our friends and fellow citizens — particularly young people who yearn for justice — unknowingly aiding and abetting their cause.”
Schumer also chided the woke left for their hierarchy of victimhood.
Liberals generally side with Hamas over Israel because Jews are considered white and their religion part of the West whereas Hamas represents minorities both in terms of skin color and religion and thus rank higher on the identity politics grievance scale.
“Because some Jewish people have done well in America, because Israel has increased its power and territory, there are people who feel that Jewish Americans are not vulnerable,” Schumer continued.
Democrats are known for maintaining a united front and keeping their differences in private.
That’s the source of their strength in fights with the Republican Party.
But the Democrat base pushing to be the pro-Hamas party was too much for Chuck Schumer to bear.
